Fees and Charges

2011-2012 Season

Paddlers may be assured that fees in Victoria still remain significantly lower than those in other States. For many years Victorian paddler’s registration and entry fees have been heavily supplemented by City of Melbourne however this sponsorship has decreased substantially over the last few years.  DBV continues to generate a healthy income from corporate team building activities and boat hire and we make every effort to ensure that regattas show at least a modest financial gain.

As our dragon boat fleet ages and we also find ourselves maintaining a more extensive inventory of regatta equipment, the cost of upkeep and insurance is increasing substantially.  Paddlers however may look forward to an exciting future with the hosting of the Australian Dragon Boat Championships in April 2012 and the development of the Docklands Community Boating Centre for which plans are now at an advanced stage and work is proposed to commence on the building in the first half of 2013.

The arrangements referred to above are designed to support the 'user pays' ethos behind the fee structure and to ensure that users of the facilities at Shed 2 and the Yarra compound understand what is required of them.

DBV has the contacts to take Victorian dragon boat teams on tour overseas, some of which are fully funded such as the 4 Cities tour of Southern China and South Korea. Victorian paddlers will also compete at Putrajaya, KL Malaysia in October 2011. These are opportunities afforded to very few sportsmen and women in the world and represent outstanding value for registered paddlers.

We hope that dragon boaters and supporters in Victoria will seize the momentum that continues to build and come on board with us and take our sport to levels never before seen in this State. Dragon boating is today the fastest growing, largest participatory sport in the world and you together with Dragon Boats Victoria need to be a part of the action.
