To sweep/helm a dragon boats in Victoria, you must:

1. Have completed a sweeps/helms course sanctioned by Dragon Boats Victoria ("Sweeps Course"); or, whilst you are under training, be accompanied by a provisional or Fully Accredited Sweep/Helm; or, whilst you are under training, be accompanied by an experienced Dragon Boat coach.
2. All new sweeps/helms must commit to and attend the first available Sweeps/helms Course.  After completing the Course, the sweep will be accredited to Provisional Sweep/Helm Status.
3. The sweep then goes back to their teams to gain further experience in all conditions with his/her Team.  The sweep/helm must fully conversant with the Capsize Procedure.
4. The sweep must register their names at the beginning of every Dragon Boat Regatta and ensure that their participation is recorded as such experience goes towards gaining Full Accreditation.
5. The provisional sweep must sweep in at least 3 races in 3 regattas without incident (regardless of fault in any collisions etc).
6. Having done so, the sweep shall apply to the Dragon Boats Victoria Sweep/Helms Co-ordinator to be assessed and, if determined to be appropriately skilled, shall be granted full accreditation.
