Docklands – Melbourne from the 31st of March to the 5th of April 2012
The Australian Dragon Boat Federation and Dragon Boats Victoria are pleased to offer an opportunity to sponsor the 2012 Australian Dragon Boat Championships being held in Melbourne’s historic Docklands, a short distance from the CBD. The 2012 Championships are expected to draw nearly 3000 paddlers from across the nation to compete in a 5-day event at both state and club level.
The 2,500 year old sport of Dragon Boat Racing has undergone a revolution in the last two decades. Growing from a mainly cultural and celebratory activity based around festivals, the modern sport is now undergoing Olympic recognition and has an internationally structured and regulated form.
The Australian Championships comprise a number of classes (Women’s, Mixed and Open) across a wide range of age categories from under 18 to Great Grand Dragons (60+). In 2011 the event was held in the Nation’s Capital – Canberra and drew slightly over 2400 paddlers. The level of competition within Australia has become world class demonstrated by Australia’s national team’s performance at world events.
The Australian Championships presents an exciting opportunity to promote and advertise at an event that is planned to attract national media coverage. Dragon Boat Racing clubs are made up from an extremely broad demographic providing a very wide exposure for our sponsors. We are excited to offer our valued partners opportunities for signage rights on
boats, websites, complimentary tent space, merchandising and promotional items as well as space throughout the venue for banners and flags.
Dragon Boat Racing within Australia has become one of the fastest growing sports, there are now over 17,000 registered members across Australia plus an additional 15,000 charity and corporate paddlers.
Dragon Boat Racing defines the meaning of teamwork; 20 paddlers must paddle a boat down a course in time as hard as they can, no single person stands out, it’s about the cohesion of a team that creates a winning boat.
Eco friendly Championship Environment
The 2012 Australian Championships will focus on an Eco friendly environment for our paddlers and supporters. The Athletes village situated at Docklands for the duration of the Championships will promote a reusable and recyclable infrastructure that has a minimum impact to our environment. We offer this as an excellent opportunity for our partners to be part of this Eco Friendly environment.
