Travel
Getting around Melbourne is easier than you think! Use the Metlink planner to find your tram, train and bus time tables:
NOTE 1: Through the Department of Transport Special Events team we will be able to offer competitors unlimited travel from Sunday 1 to Thursday 5 April at the reduced cost of only $5 each (a saving of around $27)! This travel pass will be valid in zones 1 and 2 on all metropolitan trains, trams and buses (NOT on the SkyBus airport shuttle). Passes must be ordered by Monday 27 February through your team manager.
NOTE 2: On Sunday 1 April, the Run for the Kids event will be held! This means road closures in the Docklands, and some limited tram services between 8am and 12noon:
- Trams coming down La Trobe Street will STOP at Etihad Stadium, and will not continue any further
- Trams on Collins St will STOP at Spencer Street (Southern Cross Station)
- NO Trams will come along Harbour Esplanade
- Harbour Esplanade will be closed for traffic (car/bus access will be limited)
Download the Metlink App to make it even easier to plan your public transport for your iPhone or Android phones.

Train: The closest train station to the race course is Southern Cross. The pedestrian walkway (marked in purple) is the quickest and easiest way to get to the race course from the station, and will take you about 10-15 minutes.
Tram: The red boxes with numbers on this map show you where the tram routes stop within walking distance of the race course. If you catch one of these trams the furthest you should have to walk is 10-15 minutes (tram routes 75 and 96 which stop on Spencer Street).
Flights:
Check the usual websites to find flights to and from Melbourne. REMEMBER:
- Tullamarine Airport is the one CLOSEST to Melbourne (North West)
- Avalon is closer to Geelong (but may have cheaper flights)
Both have shuttle bus services which end up in Southern Cross Station (right next to the Docklands):
From Tullamarine: SkyBus
From Avalon: Sita Coaches

There's plenty of car parking around in various office buildings, including Etihad Stadium. Please keep in mind that standard parking rates will apply. Depending on the Parking Building, early bird entry may end at either 9am or 9:30am.
For car and min bus parking, your best bet may be at Waterfront City which has a daily rate of only $5. it's due north of the athletes village, under a 5 minute walk.
